Triathlon was added to the games in Sydney for the first time. Distances for the Olympic Games are completely different to those of the Hawaii Ironman. Olympic triathlon begins with a 1,500-meter open-water swim; the competitors then cycle for 40 kilometers and conclude with a 10,000-meter run.
El triathlon se incluyó por primera vez en los Juegos de Sidney. Las distancias son mucho más cortas que las del Ironman de Hawaii. El triathlon olímpico consta de 1´5 km de natación, 40 km en bicicleta y 10 km de carrera.
